Bar Council Employed Barristers Conference 2006
ONE BAR, MANY CAREERS EMPLOYED BARRISTERS CONFERENCE 2006
3.5 CPD HOURS AVAILABLE TO ALL WHO ATTEND The Employed Barristers Committee of the Bar Council is holding the third conference for the Employed Bar. To reflect the diversity of employed practice and wide range of opportunities, the theme is One Bar, Many Careers. The conference will take place on Friday 17th March 2006 at 1 pm - 6 pm at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, One Birdcage Walk, Westminster, SW1H 9JJ. This will be followed by a reception and dinner at The Middle Temple Hall. Employed barristers practice across a whole spectrum of legal careers, such as Government - CPS, Court Service, MOD, The Treasury, Industry and Commerce, Journalism, Health Services, Solicitors Firms, Advisory and Voluntary Sectors.The conference opens with a speech by The Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith. Other speakers include: Stephen Hockman QC, Chairman of the Bar. Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, will speak at dinner in the Middle Temple Hall. A variety of workshops will be held on key topical issues such as Adoption & Children Act 2002, Pupil Supervisor Training, Advocacy, Mediation, Clementi/Carter Reviews and Extradition Act 2003. There will also be a number of stands illustrating the wide range of careers available at the employed bar. Commenting on the Conference, Stephen Hockman QC, Chairman of the Bar Council said: The Bar with a strong future is one which features an increasingly flourishing cohort of employed barristers. This conference will not only show case the many talents and opportunities in the Employed Bar but it will also act as a real focus for debate over the burning issues of the day affecting employed practitioners and the wider bar.
